Going to a therapist is nobody's first choice, and needing one is seldom a good sign. Every prospective patient who calls me, does so because something is very wrong.
When you feel vulnerable and overwhelmed, the last thing you need is more frustration. Getting stuck with a wrong-for-you therapist is beyond frustrating! Psychotherapy is a relationship - both professional and human. We call this human connection "rapport" (pronounced: rah-pOr). Without it, even the most skilled clinician will fail. Rapport is that intangible something that allows the patient to trust the practitioner; and practitioner - to understand the patient.
During our FREE phone consultation, you will tell me what is happening with you. I will ask a few questions along the way, to be sure that I am really getting it. Then, I will tell you what I think, and explain what I can do to help you. At the end, we set aside a few minutes for you to ask any questions that have accumulated during our discussion. If everything feels right on both sides, we compare calendars and schedule your Intake (90-minute long first appointment). If the connection simply is not there, or if the problem you are having is something I do not treat, but I know someone who does - I will share their contact info, to aid you in your search.
Why am I willing to gift away $100 worth of my time? Simple. More than a third of all people seeking mental health services (some studies peg it as high as 47%), never return after their Intake appointment! I kid you not! Getting to know each other on the phone before the first in-person meeting really works! In all my years of practice, I have had four people come to Intake, and not return. To answer my own question, $100 is a small price to pay for being able to say: My patients don't drop out - they graduate when they are well!
